Jeep Liberty Window Regulator Spotter's Guide
(Will help you to determine which repair kit you need for your 2002-2007 Liberty based on your existing regulator)

Due to the wacky circumstances involved with Jeep's redesign of the Liberty window regulators during the 2006 model year, the subsequent discontinuation of those regulators and retrofitting of the original style regulators, as well as the basic nature of interchangable parts, the only way to be truly certain as to which window regulator you have (and thus which repair kit you need) is to actually peek inside the door to see what is installed.

To do so, you will need to remove the door panel and moisture barrier at a minimum, and possibly the speaker as well. Basically, you need to tear into the door far enough to get a good look at the part of the regulator where the white plastic window bracket attaches to the glass. If you are not certain how to do this, please check out the Product Manuals section of my web site, where you will find the Jeep Liberty window regulator installation guides that are included with my kit.

Compare what is installed in your vehicle to the window brackets pictured below. Please note that the photos below show the window brackets outside of the vehicle simply for the sake of clarity. You won't actually need to remove the regulator or glass, you should be able to tell which type of bracket you have just by peeking through the door while the window regulator is still installed.

With the type of window regulator pictured above, the window glass has a piece of metal attached to the bottom that has two ball studs in it. These ball stud slip through a pair of slots in the white plastic window bracket, and a metal spring clip is inserted from each side to lock the ball studs into place. Sometimes this spring clip has a bright, "chrome" type of finish as pictured above, but I have also seen them in black.

This type of window regulator was installed in the 2002-2005 Liberty as well as 2006 models built on or before February 25, 2006. This is also the regulator which is used when Jeep needs to replace a faulty window regulator in a post-2/25/06 2006 or 2007 Liberty, á la Jeep Technical Service Bulletin 23-014-08. (When such a retrofit is done, the window glass is also swapped out because the "hole" style window glass is incompatible with the "ball stud" style window regulator.)

The appropriate Steiger Performance repair kit for this type of regulator is part number SP13003 for the right front door and SP13004 for the left front.

With the type of window regulator pictured above, the window glass has a hole in it that attaches directly to the white plastic window bracket. A little "nub" on the window bracket locks into the hole in the glass to hold it into place.

This type of window regulator was installed in the 2007 Liberty as well as 2006 models built on or after February 26, 2006. This window regulator has since been discontinued by Jeep, so when one needs to be replaced, a "ball stud" style window regulator is used instead á la Jeep Technical Service Bulletin 23-014-08. (When such a retrofit is done, the window glass is also swapped out because the "hole" style window glass is incompatible with the "ball stud" style window regulator.)

The appropriate Steiger Performance repair kit for this type of regulator is part number SP13007 for the right front door and SP13008 for the left front.

(When such a retrofit is done, the window glass is also swapped out because the "hole" style window glass is incompatible with the "ball stud" style window regulator.)

The appropriate Steiger Performance repair kit for this type of regulator is part number SP13001 for the right rear door and SP13002 for the left rear.
